Giving ‘definition’ to your blog

Blogging is a roller coaster ride, with almost a year under my belt I have sure had my fair share of ups and downs. Lately it seems as though I have been on the downside of that slope, and when I get in a rut (in anything in my life) I like to get organized. This post will help me to go back up the slope of that roller coaster, and I hope it helps you as well.

Define Definition

The dictionary definition of “definition” is not at all what I am talking about. Giving definition to your blog is keying your ideas in on one focal point.

This means that you should not blog about tech news and about a bad day at school. You have to be specific.

But being specific is not always just enough, my blog has to do with technology, but I do not blog news, I blog opinion pieces and how-to’s. Define your blog and stay specific on that issue.

“If you build they will come”

What a great movie, huh? I love Field of Dreams.

Creating a good blog is not easy, sometimes it takes a while for good work to be recognized. I have been blogging for a little bit of time, even fewer with definition. I feel like a lot of my time blogging has been spent running in circles trying to “make it big”.

You have to forget that. I have not looked at my stats, checked my technorati rank, or looked at my feedburner readers in a while. The truth is if you are creating good content you will get readers. There is not another way.

Don’t be a re-blog blogger

My least favorite blogs are those that tell me what I have already read elsewhere. I subscribe to over 100 RSS feeds and I can not tell you how many times I see stories on the same blogs. Don’t do it.

If you do not know what a re-blog blog looks like, check out Dvorak’s, its a prime example of what I can not stand, and the truth is it will not get you anywhere on the blogosphere.

Focus, Focus, Focus

My best series of articles are seen when I stay focused on what zamwi really means to me. If you want to see me losing focus check out my last couple of posts. Most notably this one.

Once you find your definition stick with it and remember “If you build it they will come.”
