Digg users are immature…

I used to use digg, I loved it. I got friends addicted to it, but somewhere I started to grow away from one of my favorite sites. It wasn’t the content, it was the community.
As a digg user I submitted and read a number of stories. Before I signed up for an acocunt I went and read what other people had to say about the story submitted. It was great to see all these similar people sharing interests and ideas. I knew I had to become involved, so I did.
I’ll admit, in my early days of digg my stories weren’t great. They weren’t exactly “front page material.” But people didn’t log in and comment on how bad they were. Now they do. Too much freedom caused digg to be where it is today, with original diggers turning away because of bashing comments and a mood of overall hatred. A story about Apple gets comments from angry Windows users and a story about IE gets the mad crowd of Firefox fans. Its destructive.
What I have concluded about digg:
- Whats up with digg users hating bloggers? They think blogs are just diaries that no good comes out of. Is digg not a huge blog that everyone has access to write and link stories to?
- The battles - Like I said before, its Mac vs. PC, IE vx FF, Xbox vs. PlayStation, whatever!
- They’re just immature. I’ve been taking screen shots for a while of how lame digg has gotten, and how bad the comments are. I didn’t think of writing this post until last night when a story I submitted caused me to get a great big “You suck” on my blog. Thanks for the inspiration j00r m0m!
Enjoy the screen shots

Grow up you self-absorbed inadequate little jerk.
A NOTE FROM ZACH: I didn’t delete this post, usually I do. This is the typical digg user of today. Thanks for proving my point Phil!

I think the reason a lot of blog-linked posts get hate is because quite a few of them are little more than some jackass trying to drive traffic to his weblog. Most of the time, the blog-linked stories aren’t even useful or relevant, its just somebody who wants attention or ad revenue. That’s annoying as hell, and I’m not at all surprised that some people have the balls to speak out against it. Useless blog stories get buried over and over again, and yet people keep submitting them. Obviously getting your stories buried is not enough to make a person understand that people aren’t interested in reading their whining or rambling or whatever. Maybe receiving a hail of abuse will get their attention?

I agree, I think comments should be edited and users who flame should be prevented from being able to comment on digg.

Instead of trying to remove people who say things you don’t like to hear, why don’t you take advantage of the ‘block/report’ functionality that digg offers? Nobody forces you to read those flames, and you have the option of not seeing them if you don’t want to. “too much freedom” is nonsense. Take advantage of the functionality that digg offers and get on with life.

Thanks for the good comments guys. I took advantage of block/report, but in the glory days of digg I didn’t have to, the comments were related to story, maybe links to other pages or more information, not just bashing. Thanks for the input.

I totally agree. I use digg… but I don’t comment because of that very reason. Newsvine is great if you want a more “grown up” community. If you need an invite just send me an email or something.

Kristin, thanks for the comment. I’ve been using newsvine for a few weeks, but it doesn’t have that digg like feel. But it is starting to grow on me…

Sure nomen nescio, I’ll hook you up. You should know though that newsvine will be public in a matter of weeks though. But I’ll drop you a line. Anyone else interested?

I still use digg, you can find some good articles on there sometimes, but I signed up for newsvine awhile back and I haven’t really used it as much as I want to, but I like that it’s more mature. I wonder how long that’ll last once it goes public?

Jess, I feel the same way about newsvine, I like it but it just can’t replace digg. I don’t use digg as much as I used to, I pretty much just watch the front page RSS feed and see if something is appealing, I’m still looking for something to top it.
